The Bring Your Own Bag movement launched in June of 2010 and though, the AB1998 ban on plastic bag legislation failed in California this past August, many environmentally conscious consumers continue to fight for a strict recyclable and

reusable bag policy across the nation. It's estimated that Californians discard nearly 19 billion plastic bags per year, with the tiniest amount ever being recycled. The landfills are overloading at a rapid pace. Recyclable and reusable bags hold some answers to the seemingly never-ending environmental question of, "What can we do to help?" Consumers can become part of the solution, by bringing reusable and recyclable shopping bags to stores of all types. While plastic bags can take up to 1,000 years to completely biodegrade, recyclable shopping bags can convert into water, carbon dioxide, and mineral salt with the mere subjection to sunlight. For now, it appears helping the environment comes down to an individual commitment, by choosing to use reusable shopping bags. It's sensible step in the right direction.
